Darth Vader is the greatest Hero the galaxy has ever known, and a master of Xanatos Speed Chess. (To Palpatine’s mastery of the Xanatos Gambit)
First he ‘sided’ with Senator Palpatine in order to destroy the corrupt trade feds, and the bloated, stagnant old jedi order.
After that, he kept his eye on the Evil senator-come-emperor while he slowly rooted out the corrupt politicians like Tarkin.
In tarkins case, once he had without a doubt found that Grand Moff to be so despicable as to destroy a civilian planet for no other reason, he orchestrated a Xanatos Speed Chess that would result in Tarkin dying on the death star when it was destroyed, while it ‘appeared’ that Vader had been attempting to defend it.
At the battle of Hoth, Vader deliberately killed his most experienced Admiral, removing one more corrupt officer from his command while simultaneously getting rid of his most senior officer. A move that would allow the rebels to seemingly be able to bum-rush his extremely powerful fleet.
Cloud City was more a time-out than anything. A father has to torment the future husband of his daughter after all… What kind of father would he be if he didn’t do his abject best to protect his little princess from smuggler scoundrels by freezing them in carbonite?
The fight with Luke was just an object lesson in ‘Lightsabers fucking HURT son! Just look at me…”
Return of the Jedi was a bonus for Vader with Jabba… Let his son take out that fat grotesque crime lord while he prepares his master stroke.
Vader orchestrated the entire imperial debacle at Endor. From the moment the Tyderium arrived, he was moving the pawns around. The Ewoks were unexpected, but got dragged into the plan quickly enough. A legion on the Emperor’s best troops were on the ground, but had next to no effective air or armor support when it came time for the battle.
Vader then took Luke to see the emperor as a distraction so Palpatine couldn’t use his Awesome Sith Powers to fully coordinate the fight. So that the Rebels would be able to out-perform circles around the entire imperial navy while it waited for Palpatine to get off his sorry ass and do Evil Overlording…
Then at the end, Vader was hoping Luke would go berserk and cut up the emperor… Of course, when he didn’t… Well. there was always plan B. Wait for the emperor to be Getting Off with the whole lightning torture bit, then toss him down an access shaft. And then die a tragic death so he could seemingly ‘make up’ for all the ‘pain’ he’d caused.
Darth Vader: A Man who manipulated the galaxy behind the back of an evil overlord for forty years and got his body destroyed pretty badly just so he could set his son up to be the most POWERFUL Jedi Master the galaxy had ever known.
“Generation D, where D is for disruption, is adapted to route around the old models: old models controlled by old men. My friend Pip Coburn believes that “routing around these old models” offers new opportunities. There’s a reason why IAC is, and will always remain, a reflection in a dirty pond –- a collection of properties that is unable to understand the new Internet people. If they don’t, someone else will, and they will become the next Ev Williams or Mark Zuckerberg.”—
“Our country is rearing a group of intelligent young men and women with lots of skills and enthusiasm but little self-knowledge. Unable or unwilling to deviate from the script during childhood and college, we have shifted to early adulthood the self-exploration that used to occur earlier in life and used to be the purpose of a liberal arts education. The resulting economic, psychological, and social strain on parents and kids is tremendous.”—
OH MY GOD!!!! This is the most awesome, cutest, amazing, adorable Chibiterasu CAKE I have ever seen!!!!!!! When I first saw this, cake didn’t even cross my mind. The fact that it is a cake makes it even more amazing. I would love to have a cake like this, but I wouldn’t want to eat it. Just to keep it forever and ever!
It’s an interesting take on the brain drain at least. Send the elites overseas, then they aren’t as tied up in local politics so they (the local politics) can change. On some levels it makes sense, the larger issue would be, does this opportunity outweigh the other negative aspects of the brain drain?
Well now, I have no issues with this actually. I mean, it is very easy to get flash player, many tasks (ie most video) don’t need it, and people (future apple customers via iPhone) have gotten used to it not being there, so I have no qualms with this. Combined with the ability to get the most up-to-date version on launching, why not separate the two?
I know that I run with the clicktoflash extension running at all times. I think I have… 2 sites on my whitelist? I’m quite happy without flash, and on a Mac, I have the ability to load flash, or H.264 if I need to.
Though this does put OSX and Ubuntu/Linux in the same starting location for the official flash player now.
It is a slow day in the small Minnesota town of Marshall, and the streets are deserted. Times are tough, everybody is in debt, and everybody is living on credit.
A rich tourist visiting the area drives through town, stops at the motel, lays a $100 bill on the desk and says he wants to inspect the rooms upstairs before selecting one for the night.
1. As soon as he walks upstairs, the motel owner grabs the bill and runs next door to pay his debt to the butcher.
2. The butcher takes the $100 and runs down the street to retire his debt to the pig farmer.
3. The pig farmer takes the $100 and heads off to pay his bill to his supplier, the Farmer’s Co-op.
4. The guy at the Farmer’s Co-op takes the $100 and runs to pay his debt to the local prostitute, who has also been facing hard times and has had to offer her “services” on credit.
5. The hooker rushes to the hotel and pays off her room bill with the hotel owner.
6. The hotel proprietor then places the $100 back on the counter so the rich traveler will not suspect anything.
At that moment the traveler comes down the stairs, states that the rooms are not satisfactory, picks up the $100 bill and leaves town.
No one produced anything. No one earned anything. However, the whole town is now out of debt and looks to the future with a lot more optimism.
And that, ladies and gentlemen, is how Stimulus works.
